Clock Tower, Tirana

The Clock Tower of Tirana is an iconic landmark in the heart of Albania's capital city. Standing at a height of 35 meters, this historic tower has been keeping time for the residents of Tirana since the 19th century. It was constructed in 1822 by Etëhem Bey Mollaj, a prominent Ottoman-era Albanian leader, and initially had a bell from Venice that would ring every hour to notify the townspeople.

Over the years, the Clock Tower underwent several renovations and improvements. In 1928, a modern clock mechanism was brought from Germany to replace the original one. This upgrade allowed the tower to measure time more accurately, further cementing its role as a central timekeeping structure for the city.

The tower boasts a simple yet elegant architectural style, with a spiral staircase of 90 steps that leads visitors to a balcony offering panoramic views of Tirana. From this vantage point, one can admire the city's bustling squares, the colorful buildings, and the distant Dajti Mountain.

The Clock Tower of Tirana is not only a beloved historical site but also a symbol of the city's endurance and evolution. It has witnessed Tirana's transformation from a modest town into a vibrant, modern capital. Today, it stands adjacent to the Et'hem Bey Mosque, another significant historical monument, creating a cultural and historical hub in the city's center.
